The Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad is investigating the murder of a woman in Sayville.

Officials identified the victim as Rachel Frislid, 62. She was found by a member of her family inside her home at 26 Pearl Court around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, according to police.

Detectives believe she was a victim of violence.

The Suffolk County Medical Examiner was on the scene alongside the Suffolk County Mobile Crime Lab.

When asked if there is a suspect in custody or if police are looking for someone, the police commissioner said it is an "active investigation."

He said that the residents of Sayville "have nothing to fear" in connection with this attack, telling reporters this was not random. It is believed to have been targeted.

Eileen Tyznar said she knew Frislid since they attended junior high in Seaford.

"We’re in shock. I really hope whoever did this is brought to justice very quickly because they took away a very good soul," she said.

Tyznar said Frislid, a mom of two, lost her husband 10 years ago.
Frislid ran Academy Tent Rentals based in Bohemia and also worked for Eastern Suffolk BOCES.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this to contact the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.
