Shaneeka Vernon, a woman held at gunpoint Monday at a Midwood post office, spoke with News 12 about the ordeal.
Vernon told News 12 that the man came in and held her in a chokehold with a gun to her back, demanding she ask the workers to hand over whatever was inside the till.
"He just said ‘Let him know, let the worker know, that if he doesn't give me everything in the drawer, he's gonna kill me,’" said Vernon.
Vernon claims the workers ran away, and it was just her and the man. She says he then shot at the ceiling and door.
Police say he didn't hit anyone. Vernon says she has bruised ribs and neck and shoulder injuries from the man.
Sources tell News 12 that a person matching the description tried to rob a Western Union on Utica Avenue at gunpoint.
News 12 previously reported that 37-year-old Travis Towler was arrested and charged with robbery.
Vernon said she doesn’t want to see this happen to anyone else.
"They have protection, they're behind a plexiglass but we as a consumer have nothing and that has to change," she said.
A sign on the post office this week alerted customers they'll be closed for lobby repairs following this incident and will be back open on Monday.
News 12 reached out to the U.S. Postal Service about any continued security measures but has not yet heard back.
