A loose solar panel fell from its mount and struck a 76-year-old woman Sunday in Brighton Beach, police say. She later died at Lutheran Medical Center.

Police say it happened at Ocean Parkway and Brighton Beach Avenue around 10:30 a.m.

The woman was found unconscious and unresponsive before she was brought to the hospital.

Police taped off an area in a parking lot that had multiple solar canopies. It appeared that one of the canopies was missing at least one panel.

The lot belongs to ShoreCrest Towers of 3000 Ocean Parkway.

The victim has not yet been identified.
