A woman caught on camera getting violently shoved to the ground by a police officer during a police brutality protest over the summer is now suing the NYPD, the city, and the officers involved.
Dounya Zayer took to Twitter to announce her legal pursuits, writing, “After six months of watching the city do absolutely nothing to hold the officers who assaulted me accountable, my lawyer @tahanienyc and I have finally filed suit...I will never stop demanding justice."
NYPD officer Vincent D’Andraia, 28, was virtually arraigned in criminal court on June 9 and charged with multiple violations, including third-degree assault. His supervisor, Commanding Officer Craig Edelman, was transferred from the 73rd Precinct.
According to the district attorney's office, Zayer was in the street when D'Andraia allegedly smacked her cellphone out of her hand and violently shoved her to the ground. Zayer says she suffered multiple injuries because of the assault.
