In 2020, News 12 sat down with Angelica Sanchez, who was awaiting an organ donation. After a three-year wait, she received a lifesaving heart transplant.
Sanchez says she remembers the immediate change in her body after living with an unhealthy heart for years. She received the transplant in March, after waiting three years on the organ donor waitlist.
Her diagnosis of anaplastic large-cell lymphoma came 18 years ago, and when she turned 18 years old, was diagnosed with heart failure.
Sanchez received her new heart after being matched with a donor through Live On New York. Her next plan is to help advocate for others going through the organ donor waitlist process.
