A day after the alleged rape of a 60-year-old woman in Marine Park, female neighbors say they are staying alert and taking steps to protect themselves.
According to police, the victim reported being raped at around 10 a.m. Sources say the woman was working alone at a car leasing store on Nostrand Avenue when two men rang the door, claiming to be customers. Authorities say the 60-year-old was put in a chokehold and sexually assaulted in the bathroom.
The suspects, who are described as men in their 20s, are believed to have fled the scene in a late model red Honda Civic.
Meanwhile, women in the area say they are taking precautions, such as locking their doors, being aware of their surroundings and looking out for strangers.
Councilman Lew Fidler released a statement expressing confidence in the investigation and saying that he has asked for an increased police presence.
Anyone with information on the rape suspects should call Crime Stoppers at 1-877-577-TIPS.
