Six women were honored in Clinton Hill Saturday night for their contributions to the community.
Council Member and Chair of the City Council Committee on Women and Gender Equity Farah Louis hosted the fifth annual 2024 Shirley Chisholm Women of Distinction celebration, which recognizes new women each year that influenced their communities. Louis said these women have broken patriarchal barriers and have become trail blazers for the upcoming generation of women.
"It's a sense of unity. Fellowship is an opportunity to network as well, but also to allow women to get their flowers," Louis told News 12. "Women have been working so hard in the city, especially during the pandemic. We've seen a lot of women take up extra responsibilities and opportunities, and they are our essential workers. We make up half the workforce in the city of New York."
Many women told News 12 they feel grateful to empower one another, and that the empowerment does not end on March 31.
