Tuesday is one second longer than most days to make up for the fact that every few years the earth's rotation fluctuates a little.
Scientists have figured out that the leap second keeps the world in sync, but it could have some consequences.
According to a New York Times report, during the last leap second in 2012, Foursquare, reddit and LinkedIn had website issues, and Qantas Airways' reservation system crashed.
In honor of the slightly longer day, News 12 Brooklyn hit the streets to ask residents what they would do with the extra time.
