More than 240 people have been arrested on misdemeanors for it so far this year. At this time last year, only 40 people were charged with the same crime.
Police Commissioner Bill Bratton says he knows it's not a serious crime, but says low-grade lawlessness can cultivate a greater sense of disorder and encourage more dangerous offenders.
News 12 Brooklyn took to the streets to see what they thought about the crackdown.
