Friday marked the start of a multiphase project aiming to bring a $1 billion housing complex to Soundview.
City officials broke ground at Stevenson Square, which will become the site of the affordable housing complex containing nearly 1,000 new apartments.
The project will roll out with three buildings at first. By the end of the project, officials say there will be six buildings in total.
Authorities say the project is being built by the Camber Property Group and was made possible with the support of elected officials.
News 12 is told the construction of the buildings will happen over the next two years. Officials from Camber Property Group say they will break ground on the next three buildings in the next year.
