Workers at Ocean Hill coffee shop The Daily Press are now unionized

The Daily Press is making headlines as the first independent café to be unionized through Workers United New York and New Jersey.
Almost a year ago, workers at the Daily Press café said stability and inconsistent work schedules were a common theme, and changes were needed to improve their work-life balance.
Now, a new contract was signed making those workers a united union. They say it's a joint collaboration between the workers and the owners, and the new partnership not only gives them comfort but a voice where it matters.
"We can protect ourselves from being fired," says Gabriel Caldwell, bartender at Daily Press. "We have a health savings account that we made that part of our contracts."
