A French furniture maker has been recognized around the country and in some parts of Europe for his work, but now he is making Brooklyn his home.
Christophe Pourny is an artist working to spread his goal of antiquing to the next generation.
Inside his Industry City studio, Pourny spends time restoring furniture.

“They're very rare pieces so you just try to do as minimal work as possible just to keep them alive,” says Pourny.

Born into the business of antiquing and furniture restoration in France, Pourny is working to keep his traditions alive in the United States. It's what encouraged him to author The Furniture Bible, as well as create an all-natural furniture cleaning line mixed and made right in their studio.

“We realize that all of the products that we use in our home are cumulative you know when you sort of layer on things, and it becomes as this toxic mix of things, so we kept everything food grade and all-natural,” says Jason Jobson, co-owner of Pourny Studios.
While their main focus is furniture, they later realized their products could be used on various leather goods from handbags to shoes.

“Our goal is to give people the desire and curiosity to come to check things out and do their own antiquing. We can actually guide them, advise them, they can see in the studio what we are working on and relate to the work we are doing,” says Pourny.
The new studio is open to the public every Thursday through Sunday.
