Yonkers native Gavin Heslop is getting ready for his third season in the NFL.
Even before Heslop played football for Archbishop Stepinac High School or Stony Brook University, he would dream about playing for the Giants.
"My dad used to watch a lot of Giants games, so I was more of a Giants fan growing up,” he says.
He’s been living that dream for almost a week at training camp.
“We practice across the street from MetLife. Every day, I just soak it all in,” he says.
It'll be easy for friends and family to come see him play too.
But first, the Yonkers native has to stand out enough in a crowded cornerback room to make it through cuts to the Giants’ final 53-man roster.
"That's motivation for me, to be honest, to be able to be playing in front of them and for them to be able to come see me, day by day, get better,” Heslop says.
Last year with the Seattle Seahawks, Heslop broke his leg in a game only two days after he was signed from the practice squad.
"I told myself man, Gav, you're going to get back, and when you get back, you going to be better than you was before,” he says. “That was seven months ago, seven months out, and I'm back, I'm back and I'm better."
