The Brooklyn-based nonprofit CAMBA sent its "You Can Van" to Crown Heights to help residents who may be at risk of being evicted or losing their homes.
The van was located at the corner of Kingston Avenue and Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights on Monday.
The van, which is painted bright purple, travels to Brooklyn neighborhoods known for high eviction rates with the goal of helping tenants at risk of losing their house or apartment.
CAMBA staff plots out locations all over Brooklyn with the highest number of housing court complaints. They then go to those spots for five to six days a week to target tenants that might have problems but do not know where to turn.
Members then direct clients to various services to help them with issues such as financial assistance, employment resources, benefits and legal help.
Residents say affordable housing has become a major issue in the community.
"The prices that they're charging in these areas now are going so sky-high that you're pushing out people who are good, hardworking people," says resident Gail Ford.
The van will be in Prospect Lefferts Gardens Tuesday and plans to be in numerous Brooklyn neighborhoods throughout the winter.
CAMBA says it would eventually like to increase staff to help more people.
