STORM WATCH: Expect strong storms Thursday, damaging winds primary threat

Thursday's rains bring a plethora of problems. 1-3 inch/hour rain rates would likely cause flooding of streets and small streams. Damaging winds are possible. And while the threat is low, we can't rule out a possible tornado.

From picture perfect today to quite stormy tomorrow. There will be a few weather problems for us all tomorrow. The primary threat with any of the storms that develops tomorrow will be destructive winds. The atmosphere looks to be very juiced tomorrow. This will allow a lot of rain to fall in a short amount of time. One to three inches of rain an hour is possible. Visibility will drop quickly for a driving hazard, and water will collect very quickly leading to flash flooding. Hail will be an issue in some of the towering severe storms. Prolific lightning can be expected and while the threat is low, we have to keep an eye on the radar for any rotation that could lead to a small tornado or two later in the afternoon.

Timing of the storms looks to start right around lunchtime. The worst weather can be expected between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The last grumbles of thunder should be exiting of the Jersey shoreline around 8 p.m.

Friday isn't looking as sunny as it once was. Clouds and a possible shower or two could carry us through the day.

The weekend is still looking unsettled. Both Saturday and Sunday could be on the wetter side of the weather spectrum. Let's continue to watch how this pattern evolves before declaring the weekend a washout.
