A 12-year-old aspiring artist hosted a food giveaway on Saturday – handing out fresh produce, pasta, fish and more to people in the Boerum Hill community.

Giavanna Casilla, 12, who also goes by Yung Gigi, was inspired by her brother to make a positive impact in the borough. Kenneth Casilla was fatally shot 12 years ago.

“I'm giving out food because my brother used to do that when he was younger. So I wanted to give back to those people who needed the help and don't have the money to make it," said Casilla.

Casilla announced the giveaway on her social media and was contacted by people who wanted to donate. She says she plans on bringing cooked meals and water to local men’s and women’s shelters on Sunday – and plans to make it a monthly occurrence.
