Zohran Mamdani gathered supporters and the media in Queens to address the public for the first time since becoming mayor-elect.
Mamdani introduced his transition team and members of his administration.
"Central to that effort is a transition team defined by the excellence New Yorkers can soon expect from government," said Mamdani.
Elana Leopold will serve as Mamdani's executive director of transition. He announced his co-chairs as Grace Bonilla, Lina Khan, Maria Torres-Springer and Melanie Hartzog.
All co-chairs have backgrounds in finance, social services, city planning and housing. Each co-chair has served under prior administrations, like Mayor Bill de Blasio, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Mayor Eric Adams.
Maria Torres-Springer was formerly a deputy mayor for Eric Adams. She stepped down in March of 2025 following the corruption probe against Adams.
Mamdani's team each highlighted key campaign promises made by the mayor-elect. His campaign promises range from affordability and expanding childcare to freezing the rent in New York City.
"These were not words shared as a means by which to inspire people for the purpose of an election. These were commitments that were made that we intend to deliver on so New Yorkers can live in the city they call home," said Mamdani.
The mayor-elect also touched on other key issues. He addressed his commitment to battle antisemitism in the city.
"I look forward to working with Jewish leaders across this city... whether they be elected officials, whether they be rabbis, whether they be community leaders... to deliver on the promise of not just protecting Jewish New Yorkers but cherishing them in the city," said Mamdani.
Mamdani also addressed his intention to work alongside NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch.
He also said he's open to a conversation with President Donald Trump to discuss, "...the ways we can work together to serve New Yorkers."
