One person is dead and another man behind bars following an overnight hit-and-run in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens.
According to police, a 40-year-old Hispanic man was struck by a dollar van at Flatbush and Hawthorne avenues at around midnight. They say the driver fled the scene, leaving the victim pinned under a car.
Witnesses say two dollar vans were racing down the street when one of them swerved to miss a double parked car.
The alleged driver was later taken into custody, but police say the investigation remains ongoing. Residents say more needs to be done about illegal dollar vans that often race up and down Flatbush Avenue looking for passengers. Calls by News 12 Brooklyn to the city's Taxi and Limousine Commission to discuss illegal dollar vans have not been returned.
