2 Brooklyn teens killed in nearby stabbings
Two teenagers are dead after two separate stabbings in Crown Heights, just blocks and hours away from each other.
According to police, 17-year-old John Garrett was stabbed in the chest at Eastern Parkway and Utica Avenue at around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. Surveillance video from a bodega captured him struggling with what appears to be another teenager. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Garrett's family told News 12 that they had just celebrated his birthday on Sunday and that he did well in school. He was the youngest of three children.
Not long before, investigators say 18-year-old Jamal Joseph was stabbed multiple times all over his body at the Allegiance sneaker store at 249 Utica Ave. He was also pronounced dead at the hospital.
Loved ones say the two victims knew each other, but it is not clear how. They gave News 12 a photo of the two teens smiling together.
Authorities are searching for suspects and have not connected the cases. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
