A man is who is described by the police as being emotionally disturbed was shot by authorities after they say he charged at police with a knife in Brooklyn.
The incident happened outside Avenue T in Bergen Beach around 7 p.m. Sunday.
Police say they received a 911 call from a person who told them the man was acting irrational inside their home. When police arrived, they say they approached the door and found a 27-year-old Simon Zemshmin armed with a knife.
Police say Zemshmin charged at them with the knife and was subsequently shot. He was rushed to Kings County Hospital where he is listed in stable condition. The four officers who responded were also taken to Methodist Hospital to be evaluated.
They say two knives were discovered at the scene.
Police say Zemshmin has a history of acting out toward authorities, and that he has five prior arrests.
No arrests or charges have been made.
