Protesters rallied in Crown Heights Wednesday evening demanding that the mayor and the city deliver justice a month after a police-involved shooting killed a mentally ill man in the neighborhood.
At Montgomery Street and Utica Avenue, activists called for more transparency for the investigation into Saheed Vassell's death on April 4. They want the names and disciplinary records of the officers involved in the incident. They also want more video of the incident.
As News 12 has reported, witnesses and surveillance cameras saw him waving a silver object around the street, aiming it at people. Witnesses and responding officers mistook it for a gun.
After he aimed it at police, they shot and killed him. Then they discovered that the object was a pipe.
The mayor's office did not immediately respond to a News 12 request for comment on the rally.
