Transportation advocates are calling on the MTA and Gov. Andrew Cuomo to give Bronx bus commuters their fair share in a systemwide restructuring plan.

Members of the Riders Alliance rallied in front of a busy bus stop on the Grand Concourse Tuesday to demand more bus service in the borough.

The MTA's Bus Network Redesign Plan calls for systemwide improvements in each of the five boroughs. Although the group says the overhaul is a step in the right direction, they say the Bronx's current revisions don't go far enough to improve service.

Advocates want the Bronx's Bus Redesign Plan to include new and more bus routes, shorter wait times, faster service and improvements in outer borough connections.

The MTA's final plan is expected to be released in the fall.

In a statement NYC Transit President Andy Byford said, "The bottom line is that we're committed to improving bus service in the Bronx and we're absolutely willing to consider an increase in funding, within the bounds of what's possible given our fiscal constraints."
