A shelter in the Bronx is focusing its efforts on homeless men. 

The Bridge Marmion Safe Haven in Tremont is one of 34 specialized facilities in the city catering to the homeless male population.

Unlike previous shelters, safe havens are smaller in size, provide more of an intimate setting and are designed to meet the needs of specific clients, officials say.  

City officials say safe haven's facilities are helping to reduce the number of people living on the streets. 

"We have made a commitment to create 15,000 supportive housing units," Steven Banks, of the NYC Dept. of Social Services says.

The director at the Marmion Safe Haven says since the shelter opened last year, close to a dozen clients have moved into permanent housing.    

Homelessness continues to be a problem in the city, but officials say they're making strides in getting people off of the streets.
