A Bronx teacher and two of her students helped press the button that lowered the ball in Times Square on New Year's Eve.
Aida Rosenbaum, an Advanced Placement Environmental Science teacher at Bronx Latin School, and senior Daniel Soto headed to Manhattan Tuesday afternoon.
"It's a once in a lifetime opportunity," Soto says. "Pushing the button, I mean you only see it on TV."
Rosenbaum is one of two public high school science teachers being honored during the Times Square New Year's Eve celebration.
With climate change being a big issue this year, the president of the Times Square Alliance says they are listening and celebrating the science teachers and their students who are working to solve the global problem.
Rosenbaum chose Soto and another student who led a walk for water and organized participation in the Youth Climate March.
The science teacher was in Times Square in 2000 and is reflecting on the past 20 years.
She wants to inspire her students and have them know that "you're not too young to do much but you're actually the prime age to do everything."
Soto told News 12 he wants to study environmental science and computer science in college next year.
