In an effort to start a dialogue between sexual assault survivors and law enforcement, the Brooklyn DA's office organized a symposium today at Brooklyn College with community organizations.
With all the discussion recently regarding sex assault in Hollywood, the DA's office found it timely to hold the event.
This past spring, the DA announced the creation of the Campus Sexual Assault Response Initiative.
The goal of the task force is to get comprehensive services for campus survivors, even if it does not result in a criminal prosecution.  Speakers pointed to statistics that show more than 90 percent of sexual assault survivors do not report the crime.
The symposium aims to encourage those that are victimized to seek justice and not be afraid to come forward.
The DA says the event is the first in a series of discussions to be held at the borough's colleges and universities.
