Brooklyn Public Library offers visa lottery help
The Brooklyn Public Library is offering help to people hoping to register online for the 2018 Diversity Visa program.
Eligible applicants can enter a lottery for one of 50,000 special visas. Requirements include a high school education or 2-year work experience in a qualifying field.
Applicants also have to come from a country with historically low immigration rates -- which excludes large countries like China, India and Mexico.
The process is free, but the Brooklyn Public Library says it's offering help to keep applicants safe from scammers.
"People know when they come here, they can get help from a professional," says Kerwin Pilgrim, director of an adult learning program at the library. "They know their information is safe, and we'll help them submit it."
Registration is available through Nov. 7 at noon.
