Students and their supporters took to the streets Saturday in solidarity with the March For Our Lives rally to push for tougher gun control laws in the wake of recent shootings.
Some of the Brooklyn community joined the nationwide effort and marched through Coney Island calling on lawmakers to make changes.
Jesse Abramson, 9, attended the march with his mom, who says she encourages Jesse to turn his fear into action.
“He felt bad for being scared, and I said, ‘it's perfectly normal to be scared,’” said Marielle Abramson. “And that's why you have to tell people that you're scared and do something about it.”
For some participating in the march, its more than just a nationwide effort to end mass killings, it’s personal.
Resident Samantha Ross says her younger brother survived a shooting in 2015.
Organizers say the fight to end gun violence in Brooklyn and across the nation are far from over.
"After the march we're gonna continue our grass roots effort, ‘The Coney Island Anti-Violence Collaborative,’ that's been working for the last four years to end gun violence in our community," says organizer Mathylde Frontis.
