Brooklyn tenants reminded of their right to heat
As the temperatures begin to drop outside, the city's Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) is reminding Brooklyn tenants of their right to warmth.
Officials say landlords are required to provide heat to all tenants between Oct. 1 and May 31, which is also known as "heat season."
If the temperature falls below 55 degrees between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., your home is required to be at least 68 degrees. If it's below 40 degrees from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., the inside temperate should be at least 55 degrees.
