Residents at the Bushwick Houses in Williiamsburg say they are upset and concerned with their living conditions.
The NYCHA facility is located on Flushing Avenue.
Residents say the incinerator and elevators are constantly not working and there's trash throughout the hallways and outside the building. They also say rats are now roaming around at night.
Several tenants say they call the NYCHA office all the time, but workers are only making temporary fixes to the elevators and trash.
They say they're putting down rat poison outside themselves and are disgusted to be in their own homes.
They say they are begging NYCHA to get more workers to help make the facility a place they feel comfortable living in.
NYCHA officials say the development is part of the mayor's "rat mitigation initiative." In a statement, a spokesperson said, "the quality of life of our residents is important. Staff shut down the compactor last week in order to abate the rodent problem at 869 flushing avenue. Additional exterminator staff have been assigned to address the rodent problem at Bushwick Houses."
