Some tenants in Bushwick are suing their landlord in an effort for repairs to be made to their apartments.
Maria Cordero, a tenant at 299 Troutman St., says she has had a leak in her apartment for four months.
Cordero and other tenants held a rally with Assemblywoman Maritz Davila and Mobilization for Justice, an organization that provides free legal services to low-income tenants in the city. Cordero is one of five tenants suing the landlord.
With the support of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, the tenants are heading to court Thursday, asking Housing Court to appoint what's called a 7A administrator to manage their building and make the repairs.
The tenants say a lot of their problems started after there was a fire in the building. They say the landlord never fixed the burnt-out apartments.
A building manager told News 12 that he's only held the position since March 1, 2019. In that time, he says he has sent workers to fix violations in the building since April, but to fix the violations inside the apartments, he needs more cooperation from the tenants. He says all but one have let him in to make repairs.
