As Hurricane Joaquin strengthens in the Atlantic Ocean, people in the area hit hard by Superstorm Sandy nearly three years ago are keeping a close eye on the storm's path.
The basements and lower levels of many homes in Canarsie flooded in 2012 when the storm ravaged the East Coast.
One woman who bought her home in Canarsie right after Superstorm Sandy says she had to gut it and renovate it, and says the idea of possibly having to do that again is very stressful.
News 12 spoke with other people in Canarsie who are remaining optimistic that Hurricane Joaquin won't follow in Superstorm Sandy's footsteps.
There remains a chance that the hurricane could completely miss the area, but wet weather is still on its way due to an approaching nor'easter.
