The Clark Street subway station appears to be on its way to getting some improvements just days after more than a dozen people were trapped in one of its elevators.

A total of 17 people were trapped for nearly an hour at the station in Brooklyn Heights on Monday. Acting Chair of Community Board 2 Irene Janner says this was not the first malfunction. 

When the elevators malfunction, riders are completely out of luck. It is the only way they can get from the street to the platform or vice versa. Janner says there was a long staircase several years ago, but it has been kept locked.

In a statement, the MTA said, "All of the elevators at Clark Street are set to be replaced under the current capital program. It's a family-funded project and we are beginning replacement in the next several months."
