Community Board 11 on Thursday voted unanimously against the city Department of Transportation's plans to alter traffic patterns on Morris Park Avenue.

According to the DOT, the traffic calming plan would add just under 1.5 miles of bike lanes along the road, as well as turning lanes and high-visibility crosswalks. Removed would be a low-volume travel lane.

The DOT says the changes would improve safety. Community board members and residents say the changes would increase traffic and double-parking along the street, while making side streets in the area unsafe.

Board members have the support of six elected officials.

The Morris Park Association has drafted a letter in opposition to the plan that has gained more than 700 signatures. That letter, along with the results of the vote, will be presented to Mayor Bill de Blasio and the DOT after Memorial Day.
