Emergency scaffolding was installed in one section of Brooklyn Bridge Park in March 2018, and it is still there a year and a half later.

The scaffolding was supposed to be temporary, but there's still no end in sight. Community members say they are getting impatient.

At the time the scaffolding was put up, there was a general understanding of the need for it. Debris had fallen from the Manhattan Bridge above and public safety was the top priority.

But a year and a half later, it remains unclear when it'll be removed and community leaders want answers.

In a joint letter to the deputy mayor for Housing and Economic Development, several elected officials urged the relevant agencies to come up with a permanent safety solution that would remove the scaffolding. It's essentially a steel canopy enclosing the part of Brooklyn Bridge Park that features a dog run and rock climbing facility.

It may be unclear what the solution is, but community leaders insist it can't involve the scaffolding being a permanent fixture in the park.
