The New Fairfield community is coming together to support a Danbury EMT who lost his home in last week's storm.
Greg Flower's home was quickly engulfed in flames after a generator caught fire Saturday afternoon. Flower, his wife and four children had lived in the home for 15 years.
Fire officials tell News 12 that crews had a hard time getting around the neighborhood because of all the downed power lines from this month’s ferocious storms. They praised neighbors for helping as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.
Flower tells News 12 the support from the community has been humbling. He says within two hours people had gathered to give him and his family food and clothing.
"We can't even begin to list the people who have helped us and we can't even begin to know everybody who's helped us and it's just this overwhelming sense of gratitude," Flower said.
The Flower family is currently staying in a hotel and plans to move into a rental property next week. They say they will rebuild their home.
A GoFundMe campaign was quickly started by one of Flower's colleagues. The campaign has raised more than $33,000 so far.
