Demand for produce soars at Hunts Point market
Demand for produce from the more than 30 fruits and vegetable vendors at the Hunts Point Market in the Bronx reached an all-time high just ahead of Thanksgiving.
The facility delivers food across New York City, providing food from as far as Taiwan and Vietnam.
Gabriela D'Arrigo, the director of D'Arrigo Brothers Company of Hunts Point, says her family's wholesale produce supplier is one of the largest in the New York metro area.
D'Arrigo says that if you're eating produce at a Thanksgiving table in the city this year, chances are it came from the Hunts Point Market in the Bronx.
Each vendor distributes an estimated 1 million pounds of produce to grocery stores in the area every year around Thanksgiving.
With over 30 million pounds of produce, D'Arrigo says the market brings on additional workers this time of year to meet consumer demands.
