Many Bronx drivers say they are thankful for traffic agents who are now stationed near the Unionport Bridge project.
The area has been congested, with multiple lanes merging and now a major construction project.
The drivers said Tuesday that even in the rain, they are happy that the agents will help alleviate the gridlock.
"Thank God the traffic agents are here, with the school back in session I want to thank the NYPD traffic for making that happen,” said one driver.
William Rivera, the district manager for Community Board 9, says he knows the project near Zerega Avenue and feels for drivers.
“We tell the community to bear with the traffic. We are working as much as we can to minimize it. We are working with the city agencies. Now we have the traffic agents. This bridge needs to be replaced, it is dangerous,” says Rivera
A spokesperson with the New York City Department of Transportation tells News 12 that the overall project is still on track to be completed by 2021.
It includes the new bridge, the construction of additional westbound lanes and the addition of pedestrian and bike lines.
Rivera says every month they get updates, and that they are in constant contact with the representative for the Unionport Bridge Project.
