Eight years after police found human remains scattered and washed up in Coney Island, the NYPD has found a DNA match linked to a Brooklyn woman they believe disappeared in 2014.
Police say that the body parts belong to Jennifer McAllister, a 33-year-old mother of two who lived in Gravesend.
Police first found McAllister’s hand in Gravesend Bay back in January 2015, and the medical examiner determined that the hand belonged to the victim of a murder as other body parts were found.
Familial DNA helped investigators determine this week that the remains matched that of McAllister, a major lead in the case. Police had no leads on the identity prior, referring to the victim as “Jane Doe”.
The main giveaway that helped identify McAllister – a tattoo that spelled out Konique, the name of McAllister’s son, according to the NYPD.
McAllister’s sister Monique did speak with News 12 off camera, saying it is a relief to have some closure after many years of being left completely in the dark. Monique says her family is still seeking justice for the murder of their loved one.
