Subway and bus riders stood alongside elected officials Thursday in Downtown Brooklyn and demanded that Gov. Andrew Cuomo avert the proposed bus and subway cuts.
Protesters say the focus should be shifted in improving services.
Last month, the MTA chairman said the agency is considering possible subway and bus reductions to help alleviate a budget deficit.
Elected officials are standing alongside those who use New York City transportation every day saying that's the last thing the city needs. One commuter who relies on the B38 bus that is in danger of seeing cuts says bus service already causes issues.
The Riders Alliance is demanding that Gov. Cuomo step in and not only find the money to keep the subways and buses running, but also to improve the system.
The Riders Alliance is calling on others against these cuts to join them in making sure the governor knows how important public transportation is in their lives. They'll be at the MTA board meeting next week to continue the fight.
"Black and brown and poor New Yorkers depend on the system. They don't have the luxury of just getting on their apps and calling an Uber or a Lyft. This is our Uber, this is our Lyft, this is a real form of moving around the system," said The Riders Alliance
