New Jersey election officials say they are working hard to make sure everything is ready for this upcoming Election Day.
Tuesday, Oct. 16 is the deadline in New Jersey to register to vote.
The staff at the Hudson County Superintendent of Elections Office has been working hard to register all of the new voters who want to cast their ballots.
“Generally speaking, I would say everyone that's not registered is trying to get into the books,” says Hudson County Election Superintendent John Brzozowski.
Brzozowski says that the numbers this year are up slightly from last year’s registrations. He says that just over 4,000 people have registered in the past five weeks. He says that he thinks the number will spike this week leading up to the deadline.
“We still have a ways to go. Voting registrations close at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16,” Brzozowski says. “Anyone that has a registration drive outside, we urge them to get that to us as soon as possible. Even if they're not finished with what they're doing. We want to get them into the system. We don't want to miss anybody.”
Anyone who still needs to register can do so by picking up a form at their county office or print it off the state website.
Some questions on the form, such as gender, phone number, email and party affiliation, are optional.
Voting officials also want voters to know that anyone who wants to cast their vote at the ballot box, there is no need to request a mail-in ballot for future elections. This is new in the state this year.
