The pain in Pittsburgh is being felt in Brooklyn in the wake of the mass shooting that left 11 people dead Saturday at a Pennsylvania synagogue.

Leaders from the Jewish community and other faiths gathered with elected officials Sunday to condemn the deadly attack at Pittsburgh's Tree of Life Synagogue.

Borough President Eric Adams led a united front against what he calls a spike in anti-Semitic attacks. Adams says threats need to be dealt with head-on to protect those who pray.

"I'm calling on law enforcement officers that are off-duty, and that's of all faiths, to bring their handguns to their houses of worship," Adams says.

There were also calls at Sunday's event for tighter gun control and dialing back hateful rhetoric to curb violence.

Adams also called for legislation to include social media profiles in the screening process for gun permits. It comes after officials said the Pittsburgh shooter, had targeted Jews on social media.
