The Bushwick homeless shelter in which city officials have chosen to house convicted sex offenders is ramping up efforts to fight the decision.

Men in the "Ready, Willing and Able" program can't believe that the city's Department of Homeless Services is sending 50 sex offenders to their shelter, which would force some of them to leave.

The program, run by the Doe Fund out of 89 Porter Ave., houses formerly homeless convicts and trains them for the workforce.

"One of the things we do to get people back to work is clean over 170 miles of New York City streets every single day," says Alexander Horwitz, director of external affairs at the Doe Fund. "New Yorkers trust them, New Yorkers depend on them and we will certainly never put a sex offender in one of our uniforms and jeopardize that trust."

City officials insist that the Doe Fund shelter has the means to house sex offenders. They say that they only send sex offenders to facilities that can handle them, a claim Horwitz denies.
