Dozens at the Patterson Houses are getting free food to put on their tables this holiday.

With Christmas Eve just one week away, Bronx residents lined up to gobble up free turkey at the Patternson Community Center this morning.

Some of them saying they’ll use the opportunity to freeze the bird for their upcoming holiday meal. 

Thousands of pounds of turkey were donated by Fresh Direct and the Great American Turkey Company.

The donation included turkey sausages, marinated turkey breasts and boxes upon boxes of food.

Fresh Direct representatives say they’re proud to serve the local community, especially since moving all northeast Fresh Direct operations to the Bronx. 

“We’re providing thousands of pounds of turkey products, high quality, you name it,” says Vice President of Fresh Direct Public Affairs Larry Scott Blackmon.

Some people receiving turkey today say every little bit counts. 

“I’m definitely going to use this. I have my Christmas dinner planned already, but I’ll use this for New Year’s," says Yvonne Bernard.

The Fresh Direct products donated normally cost up to $8.99 each, but today residents are going home with boxes of free food, filling their fridges this holiday season.
