Frigid temperatures to grip Brooklyn, late week snow possible
Bitter cold temperatures are on the way to the Bronx with the possibility of late week snow.
News 12 Meteorologist Mike Rizzo says it will be a good hot chocolate day as dangerous cold settles into the city tomorrow.
Wednesday morning’s wake-up temperatures will be in the 20s, and the feel like temperatures will be between 5-15 degrees.
All of this is thanks to the wind behind a cold front that passes through Tuesday night.
The wind rushes through at 25-30mph, and it will certainly howl overnight.
Wednesday’s high temperatures struggle to rise above freezing, but some places may reach 33 degrees with a mix of sun and clouds.
Feel like temperatures will reach the lower 20s for the afternoon. The wind will be 10-20mph in the afternoon and evening. Proper winter gear is needed all day to stay safe and warm in the cold.
To add salt to this cold wound, an Alberta Clipper will move toward the region for Wednesday overnight sending light snow showers to the boroughs. This is a fast moving system that only ‘clips’ us with a coating of snow by Thursday morning. At most, we’d see 0.1” of very fine and small snowflakes. Wednesday night’s low will be 25.
We’ll wake up on Thursday with decreasing clouds and some midday sunshine. The cold doesn’t end there as highs only reach 31.
Friday’s high isn’t any better at 30. The News 12 Weather team is watching closely for a coastal system that will jump offshore and move southeast of the area on Friday. The edge of this storm has an opportunity in providing minor snowfall to our area on Friday afternoon and evening. Although the quantity of snow is expected to limited at this time, this could change. We will monitor the progress of this through the remainder of the week. Friday’s high will be 30, and Friday night’s low will be 26.
