Fuhgeddaboudit Food: Chavela's
A Brooklyn restaurant is getting a high honor for their Mexican food at a price that won't break the bank.
Chavela's, located on Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights, made the Michelin 2016 list of the best affordable quality restaurants in New York. For $40, patrons can enjoy two courses and a glass of wine or dessert.
"It's going to be more affordable for people," says Chavela's general manager George Laflare. "For us to be recognized for that, it's really something that we are proud about because it's kind of what we were shooting for."
The restaurant's affordability has put them on the Michelin list four years in a row.
The owner and chef of Chavela's, Arturo Leonar, says a lot of the food and flavors that he incorporates into his dishes are the ones that he grew up with in Mexico.
Leonar says fresh ingredients are used each day so tacos, enchiladas, cheese-stuffed roasted peppers and family-style plates are appealing to customers.
