Garbage piling up in Cypress Hills concerns tenants
Tenants at the Cypress Hills Houses say they have been living in filth, with trash piling up outside their homes.
Every day for almost a month, tenants at several buildings say they have been dealing with trash including spoiled food and broken furniture.
After repeated complaints that have gone unanswered, many residents say they have had enough. Ramiro Morales says management has been contacted, but nothing is being done.
While News 12 cameras were on the scene, a garbage truck loaded with bags pulled away from the houses, leaving most of the mess behind. Residents say that's not unusual and only a few bags of trash are taken each day.
Residents say that they fear the problem will get worse as the weather warms up. Others are concerned that the trash may be affecting their heath.
News 12 reached out to NYCHA about the garbage, who released a statement saying, "NYCHA staff is removing garbage at the Cypress Hills Houses and expects to complete garbage removal this weekend. This is unacceptable and we're meeting with staff to improve maintenance of the buildings and grounds. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused our residents."
