'Living dock' seeks to aid struggling species
A new dock in Newtown Creek in Greenpoint is made of recycled and natural materials, according to the group that installed it.
Members of the Newtown Creek Alliance say they built the dock so struggling species like shrimp and oysters could have a new place to grow.
The group says it plans to monitor the species' performance. Water in the creek has been abused for more than a century, they say.
The Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund gave $25,000 to finance the project.
