Local group looks to relocate Manhattan Beach bike lane
A local group wants a bike lane in Manhattan Beach relocated.
The Manhattan Beach Community Group says the bike lane on Oriental Boulevard puts cyclists in danger.
The Department of Transportation is planning to repaint the bike lane that was damaged by Superstorm Sandy, but some residents say the bike lane should be relocated to a safer location.
There have been accidents involving bicycles along Oriental Boulevard since 2012, according to Councilman Chaim Deutsch. He says he is in touch with the Department of Transportation about moving the bike lanes.
The Manhattan Beach Community Group says the bike lane should be moved from Oriental Boulevard to the sidewalk on Shore Boulevard. They say there is a second walkway along Shore Boulevard that could separate the pedestrians from the bike riders.
News 12 reached out to the Department of Transportation and is waiting to hear back.
