Loved ones gathered Thursday outside the Wakefield home of a slain 45-year-old woman.
They lit candles and placed flowers outside the home of Wanda Rios, a mother to an 8-year-old girl.
Police say Rios was stabbed in the neck with a screwdriver Wednesday while working at MNI Security Specialists on East 233rd Street.
Police arrested 45-year-old Idris Abdul-Muhaymin in connection with her death. He is charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession. Abdul-Muhaymin was also wanted for allegedly killing his 73-year-old uncle in June. That victim, Owen Dillard, had recently won the lottery before his death.
Family and friends say they don't know why Rios was targeted, because they don't believe she knew her suspected killer. But police sources tell News 12 that the suspect may be a relative of Rios' boss.
Abdul-Muhaymin faced a judge Thursday with a bandaged elbow and a court-appointed attorney. He was remanded to the court's custody and is due back in court July 17.
