Man killed by school bus in Borough Park
Police say a 25-year-old Brooklyn man was killed after being hit by a mini-school bus in Borough Park Tuesday morning.
Authorities say the accident happened just before 10 a.m. when Matthew Smolovich attempted to cross 44th Street by walking between two parked cars. According to police, Smolovich was knocked unconscious by the bus and was taken to Maimonides Hospital, where he died.
Officers say the school bus was on its way to an area yeshiva. Smolovich was about 100 feet from the crosswalk when he was hit, police say. So far, the driver has not been charged, and police say no criminality is suspected. Police say there were about nine students on the bus at the time of the accident, but they were uninjured.
